FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY

Dr. Oakes is a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist and has over 750 hours in postgraduate neurology training through the Carrick Institute.  Functional Neurology is a science that utilizes various techniques, movements, sounds, lights and exercises meant to reestablish compromised or damaged pathways in the brain, or even “rewire” the brain in some instances.  For example, a person that has had a stroke and lost the use of his left arm and leg might have an MRI demonstrating the loss or death of a part of the brain.  After performing various therapies for some time that patient may regain the use of his limbs totally, and yet the MRI will still demonstrate that those same brain cells are still dead; in other words, the brain was “rewired” to produce left arm and leg movement in a way different than before.  We use these various therapies to treat headaches, balance disorders, post-stroke symptoms, ADD, ADHD, brain degenerative conditions such as Parkinsons, Dementia, dyslexia and many other conditions.
